Classics Scholar Emma Cole joins us for a Gate Debate on reimagining classic plays for the contemporary stage.
Emma works for the Department of Classics and Ancient History at Bristol University, where she researches the reception of the classics in contemporary theatre. Her PhD explored the reception of ancient tragedy in postdramatic theatre, and was submitted in June 2015 through the Department of Greek and Latin at University College London. Alongside Geraldine Brodie, she co-convened the Gate Theatre/UCL Theatre Translation Forum, and is co-editor of the resulting edited collection that is currently in preparation. She has also published on Katie Mitchell’s Greek tragedy productions and, alongside her research, has worked as a dramaturg on new writing and classical adaptation projects for organisations such as Playwriting Australia.
