Assistant Directors and Design Assistants
We run regular open recruitment processes for assistant director and design assistant positions. Please check out our jobs page for any current assistant director and design assistant roles coming up.
Groundbreaking and visionary design is a key part of the Gate Theatre's identity. This reputation has been built on the generous and unwavering support of Jerwood Arts and we are hugely grateful for it

Artists
Whether you’re a designer, director, playwright or actor, please feel free to invite us to see your work. We are a busy producing office, but we try to see as much work as we possibly can.
We do prioritise work that has an affinity or relationship with our focus as an organisation – check out our About Us page to find out a bit more. Please include information in your invitation (including trigger warnings) explaining why you want us to come and see the work you are making.
We are particularly interested in seeing work from diverse, international backgrounds, and work that is formally inventive.
Please give us six weeks’ notice if you possibly can, to give us the best chance of having someone from our team available to come along.
Please send your invites to invites@gatetheatre.co.uk
Scripts
Unfortunately, we don’t currently have the capacity to read unsolicited scripts.
If you are interested in getting to know us and our work, have a look at our Open Gate pages – we run workshops alongside our shows for emerging artists in different disciplines, and often offer post-show Q&As with creatives from our shows.
Jerwood Designers
Since 2001, The Jerwood Designers Programme has given outstanding designers the unique opportunity to design a full production at the Gate Theatre. By the end of the 2019/20 programme, Jerwood Arts will have supported 102 placements.
This partnership enables us to offer designers the opportunity to completely re-imagine how our space is configured. It also provides a hugely respected showcase for their work – alumni of the programme include Chloe Lamford, Jon Bausor, Fly Davis, Soutra Gilmour, Tom Scutt and Rosie Elnile, who between them have gone on to design for stages at the National Theatre, the Royal Court and the MTV Awards in LA.
