For our second workshop in our Gateways Masterclass Series, director Milli Bhatia and writer Sonali Bhattacharyya will offer a deep dive into the creative journey behind their 2023 production, King Troll (The Fawn) – a political horror produced by Kali Theatre and New Diorama, and finalist of the 2023 Women’s Prize for Playwriting. Using the production as a model, the workshop will explore how horror can be effectively developed for the stage.
Come join to explore how horror can be used as a theatrical tool for political storytelling, unpacking how each production element – lighting, sound, design, movement – plays a role in building tension, suspense and atmosphere. The session will also consider how genre affects the choices artists make when creating work for the stage.
Whether you’re a director, writer, performer, horror enthusiast, or new to the genre, all are welcome to join.
If you would prefer to submit your application via video recording or voice recording (no longer than 3-5 minutes), please email your application to [email protected]
Please note, applications for this masterclass close on May 23rd, 12pm and we will not be able to accept any applications beyond this point. The Gate team will be in touch to confirm whether your application was successful by June 3rd. Please note, if unsuccessful we are unable to offer feedback.
