Our Masterclass Series invests in our artist network’s practice, perspective and knowledge of making theatre in the world we live in today.

Masterclasses
Presented by leading facilitators in international theatre in the UK and beyond, these workshops provide space for artists to learn from each other, bettering their understanding of how to make work that reaches further than the stage, and beyond our own world view. Each masterclass touches upon a different part of international theatre-making and will be free to attend. Spaces are limited and will be allocated through a short selection process.
The Blank Page: Writing and Rewriting
With Carmen Nasr
Interrogate your writing process with this interactive workshop, and discover creative techniques for generating material, planning and re-drafting. How do you go from a blank page to a full-length play? How do you ‘plan’ a play, but still stay open, fluid and creative? How do you write with boldness and intuition, whilst also looking after the mechanics of playwriting? Whether you have a seed of an idea, a half-finished play, or a third draft, join us and develop your project and process.
Deadline for applications: Thursday 3rd July, 2025
Developing Horror for Stage
with Milli Bhatia and Sonali Bhattacharyya
For our second workshop in our Gateways Masterclass Series, director Milli Bhatia and writer Sonali Bhattacharyya offered a deep dive into the creative journey behind their 2023 production, King Troll (The Fawn) – a political horror produced by Kali Theatre and New Diorama, and finalist of the 2023 Women’s Prize for Playwriting. Using the production as a model, the workshop explored how horror can be effectively developed for the stage.
