At the Gate, we let radicalism and excellence sit side by side.
We want to continue to make trailblazing work that looks outwards.
Can we rely on you to help us #KeeptheGateOpen?
Over the course of our 43-year history, the Gate has made a significant impact on UK theatre, launching the careers of countless iconic artists and premiering cutting-edge work in Notting Hill. As a small-scale theatre, we made a courageous and much-needed step in finding a new home that is physically accessible for the artists, audiences and communities we serve and work with. A concern the Arts Council England shared with the Gate before their National Portfolio Organisation funding decision and a contradiction with our values that we felt deeply. In July 2022, we moved into our new home (as tenants) to Theatro Technis, 26 Crowndale Road, Camden, London, NW1 1TT – the heart of Camden. A venue that is physically accessible for both off and on-stage workforces. We are so proud to have made this move into our new home and area and to be able to deliver two radical and thought-provoking shows in Camden so far.
As a longstanding Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, their funding represented 45% of our annual income. In November 2022, the Gate received the devastating news that we would be subject to a 100% cut of this funding from 2023-24. This has had a serious impact on the Gate’s long-term viability, which is why we need your support more than ever to #KeepTheGateOpen.
As a registered charity, we now need to raise over £500,000 a year to keep creating exceptional and engaging programming. The generosity of individuals, trusts, and corporate partners makes our work possible.
To help KEEP THE GATE OPEN, you will enable us to:
- Develop ground-breaking work with the most cutting-edge artists
- Create new collaborations with artists and organisations around the world
- Work closely with our local community and engage young people with our work
- Constantly be in dialogue with wide audiences by keeping ticket prices affordable
