Join us for our Gate Debate for The Iphigenia Quartet with Scholars Geraldine Brodie and Emma Cole, Gate Theatre's Artistic Director, Christopher Haydon, and Actor, Andrew French.
What are the practical implications of reinventing ancient texts? How does an artist's relationship with a text change when adopting an explicitly partial perspective? And how might examining the same myth through multiple new versions help clarify the modern relevance of a tragedy? Dr Geraldine Brodie (University College London, Translation Studies) and Dr Emma Cole (University of Bristol, Classics and Ancient History) explore the directing and acting processes in The Iphigenia Quartet with Artistic Director, Christopher Haydon, and cast member, Andrew French, and ask them how they negotiate these confrontations when addressing new text and ancient myth.
Monday 16th May, after that evening's performance of Iphigenia & Chorus. The event is free to attend.
