Are you interested in working with unconventional spaces? Moi Tran and Ellen McDougall lead a two hour workshop on designing for unconventional spaces. Having just collaborated on Dear Elizabeth at the Gate, Moi will share her approach to working across a large variety of spaces - both theatrical and non-theatrical - and Ellen and Moi will share their experience and process in designing for the Gate.
This workshop will appeal to anyone who has an interest in responding artistically to unusual spaces and wants to know more about the director-designer relationship.

Moi Tran
Moi is an award winning Visual Artist/Performance maker/Researcher and Designer, her practice is focused on the intersections between Contemporary Art and Performance. Having worked in a plethora of theatrical and non-theatrical spaces, Moi has experience of responding to different environments and art forms across opera, theatre, dance, and performance art. Moi has worked with the Yard, Southwark Playhouse, Leeds Playhouse, V&A, Gallery 223, SPILL festival, LADA, as well as a number of found spaces. Moi is an Old Vic 12 Attached Artist, LADA Artist DIY 2018 and received a JMK award for Design.
Ellen McDougall
Ellen McDougall is Artistic Director at the Gate Theatre. Previous credits at the Gate include - Effigies of Wickedness (2018), The Tale of the Unknown Island (2017) and Idomeneus (2014). Other credits include The Wolves (Royal Theatre Stratford East, 2018), a critically acclaimed production of Othello at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at the Globe, the Lyric’s annual pantomime – Aladdin by Joel Horwood (2016) and Cinderella by Tom Wells (2015), The Rolling Stone (Orange Tree Theatre and Manchester Royal Exchange), The Remains of Maisie Duggan (Abbey Theatre, Dublin), The Glass Menagerie(Headlong), Anna Karenina (Manchester Royal Exchange), Henry the Fifth(Unicorn Theatre); Glitterland (Secret Theatre/Lyric Hammersmith) and Ivan and the Dogs (Actors Touring Company/Soho Theatre).
