We're thrilled to announce our new season – Who Does She Think She Is? to celebrate our 35th anniversary.  Each play takes a different perspective – personal, political or scientific - to explore the fundamental building blocks of our identity through the prism of three compelling, complex female protagonists.

The season will open with Christopher Haydon's production of Adam Rapp’s beautiful, mysterious play The Edge of Our Bodies. On the surface this is the story of a sixteen year old girl’s attempt to deal with a surprise and unwelcome pregnancy and her awkward transition into the adult world. But dig further and it becomes an extraordinary meditation on the boundary that exists between the real world we inhabit and the one that exists within our imagination.

This will be followed by Chimera – a show we are transferring from New York. Created by Deborah Stein and Suli Holum it digs deep into our DNA to examine what our biology can really tell us about the person we (think) we are.

The final show in the season will be the European première of Aditi Brennan Kapil’s The Chronicles of Kalki. Part film noir, part graphic novel this witty and surprising play tells the story of a girl who may or may not be the tenth incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu.

In addition to this new season, we have further exciting plans in the pipeline to mark the Gate’s 35th birthday – which we will announce shortly.
