Giving Tuesday at the Gate Theatre

The Gate Theatre is among 1,300 charities and businesses across the UK backing Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving after Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

On 1st December people are taking a break from the Christmas consumer frenzy to donate their time, money or voice to support a good cause.

The Gate exists to be a ‘teaching theatre’ for the next generation of artists. For the last 35 years, future creative leaders have passed through our doors looking to cut their teeth and learn their craft. Today we continue to welcome new voices to our intimate, versatile 75 seat space and create shows that challenge, provoke and inspire.

What you can do this Giving Tuesday: Light Up the Gate this Christmas!
Did you know it costs us £5,300 every year to put the theatre lights on in our venue?

Every year we need to find the money to not just stage ground breaking, inspirational theatre but to also run our intimate theatre above the Prince Albert pub in the heart of Notting Hill. This Christmas we are asking our lovely audience members if they can help get us off to an amazing start in 2016 by helping cover some of our lighting costs for the New Year.

While buying a theatre light bulb costs us just £5, we need a remarkable 100 every year to operate. We also pay an amazing, talented group of lighting designers to create inspirational designs that bring our staging and acting to life.

Finally, as part of our commitment to become greener, we are also converting all our theatre lights to energy efficient LEDs which last 50 times longer on the same energy as a normal light. These will not only reduce our carbon footprint, but they will also in the long term help dramatically reduce our energy bills.

This Christmas, will you join us in helping light up the Gate in 2016?
