Our intern Maddy Bersin (@gatetheatre) interviewed Idomeneus cast member Jon Foster (@JonLFoster) via live tweet! Check out the transcript.

@gatetheatre
Welcome to our #livetweet interview with @JonLFoster! Stay tuned as we ask Jon about all things #Idomeneus. You ready, Jon?

@JonLFoster
@gatetheatre As I'll ever be!

@gatetheatre
@JonLFoster Q from @churlishmeg: Where did you find your character inspiration from for the role of virile, love machine sex beast Leucus?

@JonLFoster
@gatetheatre @churlishmeg Hi Meg, First of all it's Nauplios and secondly that's no character ;)

@churlishmeg
@JonLFoster @gatetheatre Thanks for insights Jon. Will take up the Leucus thing with wikipedia asap. Keep doing what you do! X

@gatetheatre
@JonLFoster ;) Not unrelatedly, could you tell us how the drawing cock and balls on the walls moment developed in rehearsal? #cockandballs

@JonLFoster
@gatetheatre It was something we discovered during tech, it started with scrawling Here I am on a walls and grew from there... Pun intended

@JonLFoster
@gatetheatre We wanted to leave Nauplios' mark in the space and it seemed like a fun & appropriate way to achieve that.

@gatetheatre
@JonLFoster On a less vulgar note, the ensemble work in #Idomeneus is fab. Favourite thing about being part of this 5-person powerhouse?

@JonLFoster
@gatetheatre I love the nature of ensemble work, sharing ideas and (hopefully) coming up with something greater than the sum of it's parts.

@JonLFoster
@gatetheatre It's also such a democratic way to work, I love the equality of it.

@BrownHairedBoy
@gatetheatre Could @JonLFoster tell us a bit more about his "neutral" character that told the story? How close was that persona to himself?

@JonLFoster
@BrownHairedBoy @gatetheatre Pretty close TBH, we experimented with stronger characterisation but it seemed to add an unnecessary level ½

@JonLFoster
@BrownHairedBoy @gatetheatre to a piece that was already very layered and not really in a helpful way.

@BrownHairedBoy
@JonLFoster @gatetheatre Cheers :) I hoped so. What was the hardest part of the production process for you? Choral speaking, mess, being wet

@JonLFoster
@gatetheatre @BrownHairedBoy I get off quite lightly re the mess and I quite like that anyway... It's a challenge to keep the choral ½

@JonLFoster
@gatetheatre @BrownHairedBoy speaking both in unison but also alive, it's a tricky balance to strike.

@gatetheatre
@JonLFoster #Idomeneus is a glorious mess. So much could go wrong every night. What’s the weirdest thing that has?

@JonLFoster
@gatetheatre Someone in the audience couldn't get their party popper to work and let it off at an incredibly inappropriate in the next scene

@gatetheatre
@JonLFoster Oof! What's your favourite line in #Idomeneus?

@JonLFoster
@gatetheatre I'm quite partial to Inside the whale they found a living cow, which was pregnant and gave birth to a wolf.

@gatetheatre
@JonLFoster Why that one?

@JonLFoster
@gatetheatre It's just so absurd, on the 1 hand it's a horrible image but at the same time there's something intrinsically funny about it.

@gatetheatre
Last question for @JonLFoster: why should people come see the show?

@JonLFoster
@gatetheatre Well, it really is great fun, the story rattles along & (hopefully) is told in an exciting,engaging & v different way & we 1/2

@JonLFoster
@gatetheatre hope it's something that will really make people think about life, both theirs and others. Plus their are party poppers. :)

@gatetheatre
