TOURING - Gate Elsewhere
Natalie Abrahami and Carrie Cracknell took the helm of the Gate Theatre in 2007 and in the years since their appointment as joint Artistic Directors, they have steered the theatre into exhilarating and unknown waters. The radical and explosive work produced under their stewardship has generated so much critical and popular acclaim that the tiny theatre in Notting Hill seems almost to be bursting at the seams. Two of their shows; I AM FALLING and PRESS, have has transfers to the Lilian Baylis Studio at Sadler’s Wells however, until now, demand for the work has far outweighed the capacity of the theatre and the small team of staff running it.
‘Under Natalie Abrahami and Carrie Cracknell this 70-seater theatre is
suddenly out there in the vanguard of all that is exciting, explosive and invigorating in British Theatre. It has become a place of possibilities’
Lyn Gardner, The Guardian
Following the recent award from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Breakthrough Fund in 2009, the Gate Theatre appointed James Erskine as Producer of the Gate Elsewhere programme. In summer 2010, four productions were mounted as part of Gate Outdoors - DOMINI PUBLIC, SUSURRUS, THE KNOWLEDGE EMPORIUM and ETIQUETTE. Over the next two years James will look to expand this programme, seeking out exciting new artists from across the world to perform in the UK, and developing co-producing and touring relationships with companies and venues.
