GATE MASTERCLASS

Through collaborations with choreographers, musicians, film-makers and designers the Gate creates new ways of thinking about theatre. From discussions to practical workshops, each Masterclass invites you to understand the decisions we make and the challenges we encounter in creating work for the Gate stage.

Gate Masterclasses are for emerging professional theatre makers, and focus on the process of creating work for the Gate stage. Upcoming workshops include:

THE DIRECTOR AS ADAPTOR
Anna Ledwich, Thursday 23 June, full day
Director Anna Ledwich returns to the Gate with a bold new theatrical piece inspired by Arthur Schnitzler’s DREAM STORY. This one day masterclass offers insights into Anna’s approach as a director-adaptor, focusing on the challenges and rewards of adapting a novel for the stage, with a particular emphasis on dramaturgy and design.

MAKING BIG IDEAS WORK
Christopher Haydon, Saturday 24 September, half day
How do you make big ideas work on stage? This workshop examines the process of turning an exploration of an abstract concept like 'religion' or ‘identity' into an engaging, exciting and human drama. WITTENBERG director Christopher Haydon looks at how to make intellectually complex and challenging text come alive on stage.
