PARTICIPATE AT THE GATE
'Enterprising and indomitable' Sunday Times
Our participation programme and events take place throughout the year and invite our audience and local communities to join us on creative journeys and take part in unique experiences.
The Gate is located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, one of the most diverse boroughs in Britain. More than one hundred different languages are spoken in our Borough alone. This provides a wealth of experience, perspectives and stories to engage with, finding interesting connections between our international repertoire and our multicultural community.
Our programme consists of:
PARALLEL PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME
Throughout the year, we invite local groups to produce work alongside our artistic programme, working with a professional directing team to stage their own response to a current Gate production. Parallel Performance projects in the past have seen local BTEC Drama students staging Electra to full audiences. An amazing opportunity to explore the Gate’s artistic programme from the inside whether you are a school, youth club, community group or amateur dramatic group.
GATE MASTERCLASS
Through collaborations with choreographers, musicians, film-makers and designers the Gate creates new ways of thinking about theatre. From discussions to practical workshops, each Masterclass invites you to understand the decisions we make and the challenges we encounter in creating work for the Gate stage. Gate Masterclasses are for emerging professional theatre makers, and focus on the process of creating work for the Gate stage.
UNIVERSITY MASTERCLASS
Providing university students with a unique insight into the creative processes which drive the Gate, bespoke University Masterclasses (directing, dramaturgy etc) can be tailored to explore how the Gate’s work makes its to the stage.
PERFORMANCE PROJECTS
Throughout the year, we run bespoke projects within our local community and are always open to ideas for new partnerships.
If you belong to a local group who would like to develop work with us, please contact Emma Higham at participate@gatetheatre.co.uk or on 020 7229 5387
